AI model help
AnswerSearch uses the selected AI provider and model to generate answers. A model is the provider's answer engine, and different models can vary in speed, cost, reasoning ability, and writing style.
What should I choose?
For most people, the default model shown in AnswerSearch Settings is the best place to start. It is chosen to balance quality, speed, and cost for everyday questions.
When to change models
You may want to use a different model if your provider account gives you access to a newer model, a lower-cost model, or a higher-capability model for complex research and analysis.
Provider model names
The Model field expects the official model identifier from your selected AI provider. Model access depends on your provider account, project, billing status, and regional availability.
- For Claude models, see Anthropic model documentation.
- For OpenAI models, see OpenAI model documentation.
Troubleshooting
If a model does not work, confirm that the identifier is spelled exactly as your provider publishes it, your API key belongs to the same provider selected in Settings, and your provider account has access to that model.
Answer Mode and length
Answer length and whether web search is used are controlled by Answer Mode. The old Max tokens and web search controls are no longer shown separately in the native Settings panel.
